When I moved back to Illinois from Arizona, I assumed that I wouldn’t be able to run outside every day. I have been pleasantly surprised to find that the extreme weather swings of this great state really don’t keep me from running outside. I chose to go to the gym last winter for a few runs- especially during a bad ice storm- but overall, I really can run outside every day. I have decent rain gear but really only get it out during cold rains, which I have only run in a handful of times in the last year and a half. Usually part of the day will have no precipitation if that is what I am looking to avoid. I really do enjoy a good run in a cool rain. Cold rain is a different story but I can often avoid it by shifting my run to a different time of day. I did run this morning in a decent breeze with lightning in the distance. I heard some distant rumbles as I wrapped up my slow 3 mile run but I didn’t feel any immediate threat. Overall, not a bad morning for a run!
